We are seeking dissemination and implementation science research proposals on cervical and liver cancer from outstanding teams (up to 5 members) of early career investigators within five years of receiving their advanced postgraduate degree (MD and/or PhD) by December 2023. For the purpose of this prize, we make a distinction between “dissemination research” and “implementation research”, as follows:
We are looking for teams of early career investigators that are passionate about leading change to end cancer. They may be working as Post-doctoral Scholars, Graduate Assistants, Lecturers 1 & 2, Senior Lecturers, or Associate Professors within 5 years of receiving their advanced degrees by December 2023. The teams must be keen to lead pioneering research focused on cervical and liver cancer, including proposing innovative ideas that prevent these cancers using vaccines and other evidence-based strategies. Candidates should also be based in Nigeria and have an innovative idea that could push the boundaries of science, in our focus areas of dissemination and implementation research on cervical and liver cancer in community settings. . We are also interested in new discovering to improve working with, rather than for communities to end cancer in Nigeria.
Successful teams will be paired with a trained coach, awarded funding, join a vibrant scientific community, and will have access to expertise, tools and coaching support they need to turn their ideas into reality. We will also support and coach successful teams as they develop their skills, including leadership and grant-writing skills, that enable them to lead change and make an impact. Teams will be expected to present at internal monthly seminars, our annual training programs and also attend external scientific conferences and seminars at local, national and global conferences to present their work, ultimately leading to quality publication in journals and storytelling of their overall experience.
We celebrate community-based organizations who are working to significantly improve access to cancer prevention and care for underserved communities. Nominees drive change at the community-, neighborhood-, or hospital-level that results in better cancer control for more people. We are asking for your nomination. A nominee should possess the ability to improve access to high-quality cancer prevention and care for underserved communities.

Entries that are responsive and comply with the entry requirements will be scored by a panel of judges using the following criteria below:
Executive Summary (20%): Does the executive summary provide an overview of the proposal and research directions. Is the knowledge gap and the importance of filling it, the central hypothesis and the aims that will address it, and the overall impact of the work relevant, rigorous, reasonable and practical.
Significance (20%): The significance of the existing and proposed research in addressing a set of specific problems related to the cervical or liver cancer in Nigeria. The estimated public health benefit of the research, the reach to the population that would benefit is high.
Innovation (20%): To what extent do the proposed data push forward the state of the field and present novel insights and directions for further research? This may include novelty and originality of the research, including new concepts, approaches, or perspectives and/or extension of existing gaps in knowledge.
Feasibility and rigor (20%): How feasible is the data collection proposed? Do they demonstrate an understanding of dissemination and implementation science principles using relevant methods that are rigorous and practical. Are the study design, data collection, and analysis proposed feasible, particularly when conducted in community settings. To what extent do the proposed demonstrate potential for impact, scalability, sustainability, and/or spread to a broader context of population. The potential research should be translatable in real-world communities.
Team (10%): Is there information about the team, including members’ roles and expertise with respect to the submission. For example, this may include information about a team member’s role on the project, job title, career stage, institutional affiliation and relevant education, training, and professional or personal experiences. How well positioned is the team to successfully complete the proposed approach?
Communication Clarity (10%): Clarity and effectiveness of how the research has been communicated in the submission process
